Summer serenade
23.02.91
Summer and classical music go beautifully together. The outdoors inspired Beethoven to write his "Pastoral" Symphony -- it's on the Chautauqua Symphony schedule this year. And even the great Johann Sebastian Bach, celebrated every June in Fredonia, liked his beer on a warm night.
Start planning your picnics. The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra will be serenading the town in lovely locations, including Coca-Cola Field and Chestnut Ridge Park. The Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra offers two months' worth of concerts in the Chautauqua Institution's historic outdoor amphitheater. Go and enjoy. Bach and Beethoven will be smiling down.
Roycroft Chamber Music
Now in its 18th season, the Roycroft Chamber Music Festival takes place in St. Matthias Episcopal Church, at Maple and Grove streets in East Aurora. The concerts feature artists from across the country, as well as popular local pros, including musicians from the BPO.
This year, a free children's concert will be also held at 6:30 p.m. June 16 in the East Aurora Public Library (555 Main St., East Aurora). For all other concerts, tickets are $20 at the door and $15 in advance, available at the Roycroft Inn or through www.roycroftchambermusic.org.
